After 9/11, John enlisted to learn Arabic and work in intelligence. He deployed to Baghdad, Iraq with the 101st Airborne, then to eastern Afghanistan with the 173rd Airborne, a unit based in northern Italy.

National Guard
JAG, civil unrest, post-January 6th

John has served in the Maryland and D.C. National Guard after returning to America. He switched from intelligence to law and was mobilized during civil unrest in summer 2020 and after the Jan. 6th, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.
